Earth Watercolors
Making watercolor paints from rock pigments is a very slow, grounding and meditative process with nature and the elements. During pigment extraction and making paints these rocks smell like the earth after rain ‘Petrichor’ and this experience in itself is an experience that I would not trade for anything.
The earth interests me in colors, textures, movement, stories, mysteries. I notice the natural world around me, looking steadily, intently with great curiosity, love, interest & pleasure, experiencing wonder. Using foraged pigments has unfolded another layer of my creativity. It has added a deeper connection to the earth, which is something I was striving to find in my work. You can see my watercolor work more in alignment with nature and what I see in my everyday life.
